QUIZ on the current day CM "Music World"?

All questions should be understood to be in a world-wide/global context; and please note, this is a revamped/redesigned previously unsuccessful, posted question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AigWw...

(1) which orchestral work is the most often performed?

(2) which is the most often opera performed?

(3) which are the oldest, 'on-going' professional musical institutions:symphony orchestras/opera companies/ballet companies?

(4) whose performances are annually the best attended: consistently draws the largest crowds (not including 'Music Festivals')?

(5) which 'Music Festivals', consistently draws the largest crowds: either exclusively 'operatic', or orchestral with soloists, or mixed?

(6) which of the above referenced in questions (3) and (4), are financially the most successful?

(7) which individual artist, is financially the most successful: please identify only a SINGLE ONE; they may be from any category - pianist/violinist/singer/conductor/ballet dancer/guitarist/whatever?

A final question, which relative to 'character', is I suppose, 'anomalistic' to the preceding; but would really appreciate should anyone just happen to know:

Is there/has there ever been, a credible calculation made of the approximate number of notes, contained in Richard Wagner's "Der Ring des Niblungen": one of any dimension/tabulation/schematic/whatever?

With great expectations,

Alberich

Update:

@ "del_icio...": I would never label any of your postings as 'boorish' - what an inane question 'Emily' posted. But shouldn't take those posted here, 'seriously' ???????

Update 2:

@@ "df74sg": question (8) - as another measurement I suppose, of Wagner's incredible accomplishment.

Its - the "Ring" - sheer scale/colossal mass/its scope, is incomparable; that one human mind could have toiled for so long/invested so much energy to produce such an edifice, and actually succeeded, boggles the mind.

Update 3:

@@@ Thanks guys.

    1. Seasonally, Beethoven’s 9th and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. As to which individual work is performed the most often overall yearly, this probably varies from year to year depending on several factors. During a birthday or composer passing celebration year (like Mozart’s 200th. or Stravinsky’s 100th.) orchestras tend to pay homage to specific composers (last year it was Mahler). As to which work is the most often performed as part of the standard repertoire I’m guessing it would be between Beethoven’s 5th. Piano Concerto and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

    2. Again this varies slightly from year to year but the two most often performed operas worldwide are Carmen and La Boheme. Number three remains The Barber Of Seville.

    3. I haven’t the foggiest idea but did seem to remember the tidbit about the Paris Ballet. So give Del_ full credit for knowing his stuff.

    4. Just a guess but I would think this would have to be either Yo Yo Ma or Hillary Hahn, both still the darlings of the classical music world.

    5. I haven’t the foggiest idea.

    6. I’m not sure about the financial health of any of the world class orchestras (unless I hear about some financial difficulties from one of them on NPR) but seem to gather that the ballet companies are the ones having the most trouble staying above water. But I do know the New York MET is in great financial shape with yearly surpluses and substantial endowments keeping it quite healthy. In fact, they have expanded their far-reaching exposure through worldwide in-theater live broadcasts, Sirus Radio live broadcasts and on-demand listening services and the MET's new website backlogue of viewable past broadcasts, etc.

    7. Because Hahn has scaled back both her personal appearances and recordings I think I. Jones is right here and Josh Bell probably is bringing in the most bucks as a performer.

OK, I'm going to bite this time. These are my estimations/opinions and should in no way be taken seriously (or boorishly!):

    (1) I would say Bruch - Violin Concerto No 1

    (2) Probably Puccini - La bohème

    (3) Oldest orchestra: Royal Danish Orchestra

    Oldest opera company: Hamburg Staatsoper

Oldest ballet company: Paris Opera Ballet

    (4) Probably that awful Lang Lang

    (5) I think that would have to be the BBC Proms in London

    (6) On a 'per capita' basis, I think that would be Lang Lang again.

    (7) Lang Lang.

There had to be a Wagner question, didn't there, Alberich? I have no idea (nor will I lose sleep about not knowing).

    Best wishes

I'll give it a go as well:

    (1) -- Including recordings at Independence day celebrations, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.

    (2) -- Die Zauberflöte - Mozart, strictly a guess and I've never seen it live.

    (3) -- a. Royal Danish Orchestra (dates from 1448), b. Somewhere other than Denmark, perhaps Russia. c. Royal Danish Ballet (again, a guess)

    (4)

    (5)

    (6)

    (7) -- Joshua Bell (again with a guess)

    1. Any works by 20th century composers.

    2. I don't know.

    3. I'm guessing London Symphony.

    4. I don't pay for live performances. I prefer CD recordings.

    5. Refer to #4.

    6. You have to ask the organiser.

    7. Glenn Gould (but I don't like the way he played Bach)

    8. Why would anyone count notes.

we are going to seems all human beings already is conscious who died. yet did you comprehend who did no longer die? Waylon Jennings had a niche on that airplane and lost it in a coin toss with the bopper. who then have been given on the airplane and became around and joked to Waylon approximately his being caught in Minnesota to which Waylon retorted "yeah, i desire your airplane crashes."
