how do i get my dog to stop jumping?
iv got him to the point where if i tell him to sit he does... but the minute i move he starts jumping again! iv tried turning my back to him and it just doesnt seem to stick! iv also heard you can step on their front paws but that just seems cruel and i doubt i could do it anyways as he fidgets a lot.

The old training method was to step on the BACK paws, not the front paws.
Use the command "off", not "sit"as you are completely confusing your dog, especially when he sits and then you get upset with him. When training, you have to think about how your dog is reacting to your training and actually get inside his head. Telling him to "sit" is not telling him not to jump up, so you need a word specific for that. Here is how to teach an "off" command reliably;

Is this out of excitement or something? Is the food you're giving him causing him to have high energy levels? Try going to the vet and seeing if he has some medical reason for 'jumping' (I'm picturing a dog literally bounding up and down, rather like Tigger). Maybe he just has a short attention span and you need to keep working with him as you're doing.

No reason to step on paws...they are very sensitive and that would just make your dog stop trusting you. Take an obedience class with your dog...training should be fun for both you and your dog.You will really like teaching your dog and seeing him listen to you and do as you ask. Even dogs that fidget can be well trained:)

Don't step on their front paws, you're right, it's cruel.
Whenever he jumps up, just ignore him and act like he isn't there. Only give him attention if he has all his paws on the floor.Like this:
Jumping = No attention
Standing = Attention
I hope this helps.

If you are massacistic you could chop off his legs, but you sound nice so i would just sedate him, he'll stop soon enough.
