Why do I need an MRI?
My knee has been hurting me for two months and when I went to the dr she pulled on my knee checked the kneecap twisted it and everything asking me if it hurt which it did not. She said if it still hurts in a month I have to get an MRI done, it's been a month and have to go soon, what is she checking for?

An MRI is much more detailed than something like an x-ray. It allows doctors to the tendons, muscles, and ligaments in your knee joint. She could be checking for tears in any of these things, or she might be wanting to see if anything is deteriorating because of overuse.

An MRI allows a doctor to see the tissue much more clearly. If you have rips in the muscles or tendons, they will show up a lot better on an MRI than any other way.
