Which course should I join, ECE or CSE?

Hello.

I am a fresher entering into college next year. I am interested in computer science and engineering (CSE) very much but, I don't like communication and electronics in general. My parents are suggesting me to join ECE, just because I can get jobs in both the fields and has got much more job security than CSE. So, I am very much confused what to do. Is it true what my parents feel? Should I join ECE even if I don't like communications or just stick on to CSE? Please give me a detailed explanation.

Thanks for answering......

Billion $ advice ..........Go as per your own interest & NOT with your parents interest.

It's Engineering buddy.......you can't take it for granted.

Well here is the detailed explanation of both ECE & CSE..............

ECE is one of the most sought after course on par with Computer Science or Information Technology. ECE is basically a combination of Electronics and Communication. Communication means radio waves, spectrum and the like which we use for communication. Electronics is basically the circuitry used in every electronic gadget. This course deals with various circuits and concepts which are in use now. This is not a course where one can master both the electronic and computer domains and be comfortably sitting for placements. There is no separate field called electronics or communication in the world as of now. Everything is interlinked with computers. Those of the view that ECE is a branch with little computer science in it will stand disappointed as any good work in ECE will require good understanding of computer and coding principles.Core jobs (Jobs in semiconductor companies or network giants like CISCO) are to those who are strong with their fundamentals in ECE. People who are uncertain or confused might find it difficult to get into a core job. If you chose ECE in counseling with a drive to get into a core company, you will need to put in the hard efforts while you are studying.

CSE (short for Computer Science and Engineering) is about understanding the concepts involved in computers. The first year will introduce you to basic programming. Courses like Data Structures will deal with building good programs. The basic things like operating systems, architecture, databases will be dealt in second year. Advanced concepts like networks, distributed systems, graphics will be taught in the year next and the final year will have courses such as artificial intelligence, soft computing, advanced databases etc which may not be essential but needed for some people who would like to specialize in those areas.

After completing CSE, you can expect jobs in many good companies like Microsoft, Amazon, DE Shaw, IBM (Provided you get admitted in a Premiere Institute) along with various other software companies like Informatica, Chronus, Mu Sigma, Bank Bazaar, etc. You would probably be familiar about the firms which recruit in bulk numbers like the CTS, TCS, Accenture or Infosys. Ending up in any of these firms is not a big deal for CSE students, though it might involve a notable effort incase of students graduating from lesser popular colleges. So job is not at all a problem for CSE students.

    Job Security:

If you study in top institutions then you will surely get an IT job irrespective of the department.

If you study in some of the lower institutions then you have slightly less chance for CSE than ECE because companies prefer ECE every time

    Difference between ECE and CSE:

CSE is more easy than ECE because ECE has vast syllabus and more problematic papers.

If you study CSE you will study Java other than C and C++ in depth.

In ECE you will study C and C++ overview only

    Which one to choose

It depends on your interest, ability to study, your college

    Don't choose blindly

Its nothing like that. Talking about Job security... that is equally likely in CSE and ECE. And both the branch are equally good. If you like CSE, you should join CSE. Many a times its the same company which recruits people from CSE as well as ECE like Infosys, wipro, tcs, Accenture etc. So the job security is same.

Do what you want to. After all, its your life!!

    All the best!!!
