Where should I stay on Las Vegas Strip?
Hello, I'm going to surprise my fiancee by taking her to Las Vegas on her birthday weekend. I could use some advise where to stay. Neither of us really gamble much and we'll probably blow $100 and decide that's enough. She has never been to Las Vegas and I have only been twice.
I wanted to stay at a nice place, somewhere around $200 a night or less, that has a nice pool, nice rooms and is romantic. We are 38 and 39 years old.
I like the looks of the Venetian because it looks like there is so much to do on site and I like the theme. The Luxury suite is $200 a night for the weekend we are going. The Grand Canal shops look cool which my fiancee will probably like. The Palazzo is the same price. It sound like the rooms might be nicer because they are newer, but it doesn't have as much of the theme as the Venetian.
The Encore looks like it is very nice but looks like there is not as much to do on site. I don't think there is a casino either. We don't want to gamble much, but we would like to a little. The Resort Suite is about $200 a night too.
Mandalay Bay looks nice, especially because of the pool/water park. Rooms are about $200 a night. It is a little out of the way though.
Personally, I like more action, things to see, central location so I can walk around easily. My fiancee like more quiet, luxury, class. We are both beach people, so Mandalay Bay sounded cool for that reason, but that's not the only thing that matters to us. Romance is important. The Venetian looked good for this reason.
I'm sure we'll want to walk the strip a little just to check it out - not to really go try different casinos. She'll want to do some shopping. We'll both want to have plenty of drinks, but she's not a loud dance club type of person. But we'll probably want to check one out. As for shows, I'm not sure about that yet. I would like to take her to one, but I have to keep the budget down, since we're going on a much larger trip a month later.
So The Venetian/Palazzo (which one?), The Encore, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay all look good for different reasons. I like the looks of the Venetian, personally, but I don't really know enough about them to make a good decision. Any advice/recommendations? Thanks!
And since I'm on a budget, free entertainment is a plus. It looks like Mandalay Bay has free shows at the House of Blues.
Thanks Mike G. Do you have an opinion between the Palazzo and Venetian?

Wow, same age! Been to Vegas 6 times and I'd pick Venetian. It has nice rooms, nice pool, shopping, gondola rides (romance factor), wax museum, "Phantom" show, nice places to eat, TAO nightclub, and is centrally located (near Mirage, TI, Wynn, etc.). It is a nice 5-star hotel and casino.
Good luck!

Keep in mind, just because your not staying somewhere doesn't mean you can't visit. So if you don't stay at ventitian, doesn't mean you can't go visit, remember it's all close and might be walking distance, and $10 or less in a cab.
I just got back from Vegas last week, and stayed in Mandalay Bay, real nice. I would have paid $175 a night but my rooms are comped, and also stayed in New York New York, real nice and unique.
All hotels have their nice rooms.
REMEMBER, doesn't matter at all what's on site. Vegas is all walking distance.. ALSO, Fremont street is A MUST!!!!!!!!

Go see sin city heat .. used to be at the Hilton bar, free to watch and good singers and dancers, good place to have some drinks and watch a good show. :) They have multiple shows also if you stay until the next.

My husband and I love the Bellagio... but a lot of our friends like Venetian more. Either way, you can't go wrong with either one.

Venetian is one of my favorite resorts on the strip, and it sounds like it will be ideal for your trip. The rooms are fantastic, it's a romantic place, it has a great location, and there is a lot to see and do in and around the resort. The Palazzo is themed similarly to Venetian, and they are actually connected to one another. It is a newer resort, so things are a bit more updated and flashy. But both are very nice. One of the bigger clubs on the strip is at Venetian - Tao.
Wynn/Encore are also fantastic resorts, but they aren't located very well and there isn't much to do nearby. You have a decent walk south before hitting much action on the strip.
Mandalay Bay is a good choice as well, especially for it's amazing pool. While it also has a poor location, it's made better by a free tram that connects it to Excalibur. That puts you in a more active part of the strip, where there is a lot to see and do.
As for Bellagio, it is beautiful and classy. Nothing beats a fountain-view room there, and the location is excellent. I have to say that I do find it to be a little stuffy and uptight - I love to visit there, but I don't really love staying there. I just don't really feel "at home" there.
I'd choose in this order:
*Venetian/Palazzo
*Mandalay Bay
*Bellagio
*Wynn/Encore
For cheap show tickets, consider checking out the Tix4Tonight booths that are located up and down the strip. They offer same-day tickets at discounts up to 50% off. If you don't have a particular show in mind, that's a great way to get a deal on a Vegas show. The selection changes daily.
There are also free attractions, such as the Bellagio fountains and conservatory, the Treasure Island pirate show, the Mirage volcanoes, the Fremont Street Experience, etc.
