Is it necessary to believe everything in the Old Testament?
Or can we scrap it because it's kinda insane?
But if they ignore it, they may as well not believe; without Adam and Eve, there's no Original Sin and thus, no point in believing any of it. =(

The Bible is not a figurative book. Its literal.
You can't just pick parts that you like just because your convicted or its just weird. You might as not believe at all! What the heck? haha
Its like reading a biography of like steve jobs or someone and saying "that couldn't have happened. There's no way he did that, cause thats too weird. I'm not gunna believe it".
God said:
"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:15"
Yea its weird but some people's lives are so crazy it seems like a story or something. My life was completely like that. You would never think its real.

I think that most, probably all, religions are smorgasbord religions. When it comes to the Old Testament, for example, how many Christians do you see who follow the rules about eating shrimp when it is clearly forbidden.

Its the same as ''do you believe in God completely?" you should have faith in Him without a doubt.

From a purely logical point of reference, what one believes doesn't make it truth. if one believes the bible is the divine word of God, then one believes it ALL. Studying the historical, geological and archaeological facts within the Bible can lead to objective truths. One can't change history and the like to suit ones "opinion". Putting it all together, humans are blessed with the ability to use their cognitive skills to assess reality/truth. From truth we can forge beliefs. 2+2=4. I don't believe this just because some one told me it's so. I can logically deduce this using learned/developed mathematical reasoning skills. And so, I read the Bible, study the contents in context, learn about the historical validity and so forth to understand that this is truth.
Your comment about the rationality of the OT is based on what? Ant-realism? Relativism?
Give us some substance for your belief of the above statement.

Yes because it's part of god's book and there's no contradiction on it. The first books are the events related to the beginning of the creation down to the reconstruction of the temple, the history of Daniel, the life of the Jews, and why they'd lost god's favor. Whereas the New Testament relates Jesus History and his disciples and his accomplishments, relating the judgment that will occur in our day.

I don't suppose it is necessary, but it would certainly not be profitable. YOu don't want to figure out how little truth you can get away with, but how much truth you are able to receive.
Jesus Christ certainly believed everything in the Old Testament, because he said this:
" It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law (of Moses)."
Luke 10:17
but you must be born again before you can either see or enter the Kingdom of God.

Most Christians will tell you that being gay is wrong but eating pork is fine. Despite them both being declared a sin in the same part of the Bible. Basically, believe in whichever parts you want....or better yet....none of it.

It's as necessary to believe everything in the Old Testament as it is to believe everything in the New Testament or everything in the Koran or the Torah. They all have the same amount of evidence (nothing).

Christians regularly ignore most of it while keeping the parts that appeal to their prejudices.
