where can I find Lakota Sioux people?

I'm adopted, just met my parents and found out. They have no clue, cause they moved away. Is there a website I can connect with fellow Lakota Sioux People?

You aren't lakota unless you are an enrolled tribal citzen. Are both your parents members of the Lakota? Do you have a CDIB? (get one, if you don't, then you can apply for tribal citizenship with that)

You will find the Lakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. There is a tribal website, but you really can't "connect" to your relatives through a government agency, can you?

I should warn you, you might find (coming from your mainstream american background) Pine Ridge to be rather bleak and depressing, and probably not what you were expectiing.

Western South Dakota. You should know that most Lakota probably won't take too kindly to you, but don't let it get to you they hate everybody. They even hate people from different bands within their own tribe (don't get me wrong not all Lakota are like this, but the majority are). And I would have to agree with the stuff about Ridge. The poorest county in the U.S. is located on the Pine Ridge Reservation, unemployment, drug addiction, and alcoholism are rampant, a lot of people don't even have running water. I have had a few bad experiences on Ridge. There was the new years eve party, where I got hit in the back of the head with the blunt side of a hatchet or the time I was stabbed at my ex-girlfriend's cousin's house. I'm sure you'll be fine, but arm yourself just in case.

Source(s): I've been in Rapid City for the last 5 years and I am currently staying in a low income apartment complex on the north side, where I am literally the only non Lakota resident. My baby's mama is Oglala Lakota, 2 of my ex-girlfriends were Lakota, and my current roommate is from Rosebud. I also lived with one of my exes entire family for almost a year, where I was constantly referred to as "wašicun", "white boy", "stupid white boy", and of course "who invited the white boy?".

You can become enrolled with the birth certificate and or in some tribe now DNA test proving your parent(s). Call the enrollement office for the tribe and they can help you with the process also. Almost all the tribes have their own websites. Make sure you get your birth certificate and adoption records that state your parents real names. If the family and or tribe doesn't help you. do the next

The first step you want to do is to go to the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) and start the process. Even if you dont get enrolled in the tribe you can still get a CIB (Certificate of Indian Blood). You have to prove your blood quantum is 1/4 for most tribes.

BE CAREFUL BECAUSE SOMETIME NON NATIVE FOLKS GET TRIBES CONFUSED AND YOU MIGHT BE FROM ANOTHER TRIBE

    Oglala Sioux or

or Rosebud Sioux or Yankton Sioux or etc (theres more) federally recognized tribes

Go to Pow Wows .com and see when the next pow wow is in your area there will be people there who you could talk to .http://www.powwows.com/calendar/displaymonth.php

If you want to email me and I can give you more information

Source(s): Dont listen to the mean peole with their close minded comments it is just because us Native folks have found so many white people that claim to be Indian and then want to interrupt our life. I tihnk it comes from the white kids that were racist to us when we were kids not to mention intergenerational tramua and oppression.
