I've lost interest in just about anything, I never feel excited anymore, have you gone through this?

I am 43 and this has been going on for 3 years now. Yes, I have struggled with depression

in my life, but this is something else entirely, it is worse than depression.

at least during a bout of depression I could think of something I could do to

momentarily cheer myself up, or I could dream about things I wanted to

do once the depression subsided. but now, I can hardly stay interested in

a TV show. or reading a book, which used to be one of my biggest passions.

I can't think of anything I care to do. the only thing is eating, but I have to

be really hungry for that, and the food has to be really good, no fast

food burgers, it has to be healthy substantial meals.

I'm apathetic as hell, lazy, and have no enthusiasm about life.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

I'm hoping someone else has gone through this

and overcome it and can show me the light at the end of

the tunnel...

PS. don't suggest medications, because I've tried so many

already for depression, and nothing helped. in fact some of

them made me feel worse. I'm not going down that road again.

If you want to try something which can work let me suggest a low carb diet and EXERCISE.

Get off the sugars as much as possible and eliminate white food, rice, pasta, bread and the like.

    Get your sugars from fruit.

    Then start exercising.

Even if it is a brisk walk for 45 minutes a day.

Its this simple, diet will effect your blood chemistry and exercise will help put your body back to work.

It sounds too simple but it can work.

If nothing else it is natural and does not cost anything.

A higher protein diet does cost more, more fish, lean meat and fresh produce but its worth it.

Try it, it worked for me.

There is nothing like exercise to improve your mood.

I'm in the same mood as you and like you I also have depression, my doctor told me to see a therapist and he and I talk also, they have come up with placing me on zyprexa and told me that I haven't dealt with some major issues in my life ~ like my mothers passing (I was her carer) and even being adopted I haven't dealt with that either. I cry often at silly things and can't seem to find a way to get better because I still find it difficult to talk to others, I have always been a strong person, stubborn some would even say and they are probably right. I feel like I should be able to deal with these problems myself and turned to alcohol which has just made the problem worse and has created other health problems ~ its like you just can't win at anything. I wish I could tell you that its easy and this is what to do next but its different for everyone depending on whats causing the depression, try talking to your doctor and see what he/she thinks. You are not alone and many people are in the same position but aren't strong enough to seek help so you have made a start. You can email me anytime and I will always listen and not judge you, good luck with it all :)

Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. Isn't that lazy feeling awful?

What helped me was going to old folks homes and visiting the people. I got more incentive to do something with my life before I was their age, and they really like company too. I felt like I was helping them and myself too.

I know, this sounds like a lot of trouble. Maybe something close to that will work for you? Another thing I found helpful was to spend time outside in someplace with trees or water. Just getting that air into you will make your body feel better.

Good luck to you, this is a tough thing to overcome but you can do it. Remember, you're still young and have the whole world of things to do.

I also have depression and I do not want to take medication for it. A good natural anti-depressant is going on walks and exercising.
