Is cardboard an ok work surface when dealing with sculpey polymer clay?

I saw some videos on YouTube that dealt with sculpting using polymer clay. I recently baught some supplies and my first block of Sculpey Polymer Clay. I seen a few different things you can use for the work surface but I don't have either of them at the moment and I'd like to start sculpting something. So I was wondering if cardboard was an ok object to use as a work surface... I'd appreciate it if anyone could let me know. Thanks for your time.

On the whole, I would say not, but if desperate ...

Cardboard will tend to take solvent out of the clay, making it more crumbly and it doesn't have the advantage of flexibility in rolling out something and picking it up/off. And it may transfer colors as you go from one to the next.

Aluminum foil or waxed, parchment or freezer paper from the kitchen wrapped around something firm like a hard book would give you a cleanable surface that can also be flexible for peeling off rolled clay.

If you have an extra kitchen cutting board that could be a hard flat surface.

In the long run, it is really nice to have an 8x8 or 8x10 ceramic wall tile from a place like Home Depot to give you a flat cleanable working surface and parchment paper in workable pieces for shifting and rolling bits.
