Question about open heart surgery...?
I have a friend who had open heart surgery (triple bypass) at the end of October 2011. She seems to be recovering well but claims that the surgery has affected her memory. She also claims to fall victim to sudden fatigue, but it seems to me that she is selectively fatigued: she can go all day when it is something SHE wants to do but is suddenly tired when someone else suggests an activity. How long does it take to recover from open heart surgery? Her doctor is suggesting cardiac rehab. Does she really need it? How can I assess whether these are real symptoms or convenient reasons to avoid doing what she is not interested in doing?

Did you ever think maybe she pushes through the tiredness in order to do something she wants to do? **** you're selfish.
As far as the medicine is concerned - if her doctor is suggesting cardiac therapy - she needs it. You need to believe her. She's sick and it can take a LONG time to recover and many don't fully recover.
Fatigue that is sudden IS "selective" in nature. I would know - I have fibromyalgia.
You should disband your disbelief and start actually acting like a friend.

I had a triple bypass in December 2011, I am back to my routine, including back at work. She is self sympathetic. Did she walk everyday like she was told? She did not do rehab, like she was told, She is using this as a crutch. The memory pauses go away after the first month, I am as sharp as ever. It was residual anesthesia and the after effects of the heart-lung machine..

It shouldn't take too long to recover, like three months then you can run around, etc. After my 2nd heart surgery, I would get really really tired easily, but not sleepy tired just walking/running/dancing/etc. tired.. I would feel light headed as well. This happened for years, I just had my 3rd heart surgery in January, my walking tiredness has improved but I do get sleepy a lot lately and i also think my 2nd heart surgery affected my memory as well, I was a good at remembering things according to my mom >.> . I hope my story kind of helped x)
