Most breastfed babies get vitamin D drops. Breastmilk doesn't have enough D because mothers are D deficient. So *you* should be taking D (and probably your baby, as well). Breastmilk does have fluorine in it, so extra fluoride should not be necessary. But babies should be given water with fluoride when they start drinking it at about 6 months old.
In northern climates, it is not likely that a child (or an adult) will get sufficient sunlight for 1/2 of the year to make the D that they need. That's why Scandinavians take cod liver oil. In our culture, it is also unlikely that you will get sufficient vitamin D from the sun in the summer, especially if you (and baby) use sunscreen.

I've never heard of the flouride thing, but I've heard the Vitamin D advice. I talked to my midwife, and she said that babies can get it from the sun just like adults. They just need about a half hour in the sun total every week, or up to an hour for dark skinned babies or those far north. Just make sure it's not in the hottest part of the day and not all at one time to prevent sunburn.

My doctor said the same thing for my baby. I breastfeed and supplement with formula. The formula has vitamin D in it so it turned out I didn't have to get separate drops. But, ya if you are exclusively breastfeeding you need to get the baby some vitamin D.
