1) A tennis ball of mass m = 0.055 kg and speed v = 15 m/s strikes a wall at a 45° angle and rebounds with the same speed at 45°. What is the impulse given the wall?

Magnitude

__________N·sDirection

2) A 19 g rifle bullet traveling 250 m/s buries itself in a 3.1 kg pendulum hanging on a 2.7 m long string, which makes the pendulum swing upward in an arc. Determine the vertical and horizontal components of the pendulum's displacement.

vertical ______m

horizontal____m

3) Two astronauts, one of mass 60 kg and the other 82 kg, are initially at rest in outer space. They then push each other apart. How far apart are they when the lighter astronaut has moved 13 m?

______m

4) A ball of mass m makes a head-on elastic collision with a second ball (at rest) and rebounds with a speed equal to one-third its original speed. What is the mass of the second ball? (Use the following as necessary: m)

    1) Magnitude

    2*0.055*15*sin 45 = 1.17 N·s Direction perpendicular to the wall towards it.

    2)(3.1+0.019)*V= 0.5*0.019*250 or V = 0.76 m/s;

    vertical displacement = (0.5*3.119*0.76^2)/(3.119*9.81) = 0.03 m or 3 cm

    vertical = 0.03 m

    cos θ = (2.7-0.03)/2.7 = 0.9891 or sin θ = 0.1475 or horizontal displacement = 2.7*sin θ = 0.40

    horizontal = 0.40 m
