Why are my. goldfish picking on one of the others?
I have had these particular 6 fish for about 3 years all living harmoniously together. Today 5 of them started picking on one of their mates, attacking it and trying to bite it and cornering it! It's like a piscine Lord of the Flies in the tank. I have removed the fish to another tank for their own safety.. Can anyone tell me why the others have developed this blood lust after several years and explain what is going on and what on earth I can do about it? There are 6 fish about 2-3 inches long in plenty of water(80litres) help please....

Your goldfish are stunted in Growth and tank is to small for 1 goldfish never mind 6.
Its a territorial behavior due to over crowding
I would be expecting Your goldfish if Common to be at least 1ft by now had they been in the right size tank.
Unless your prepared to get a tank of at least 200 gallons find a pond for them..

One of the possibility are that the fish that they are picking on is ill, and fish can be known to attack other ill fish so that there is less chance of them catching it!
