For 2 months I have been watching what I eat and walking at least 2 miles a day. Why am I not losing weight?

Update:

I went from being sedentary and eating fast food regularly to walking daily, eating healthy foods and drinking lots of water. Am I wrong to think that these changes would result in weight loss?

Most probably you are not following the right diet, as you mention that you are merely "watching what you eat". You should switch to a more strict diet, and I would suggest a calorie diet of around 800 calories, consisting of plenty of salads, proteins, and only very limited carbohydrates, accompanied by a more rigorous exercise such as walking fast for an hour or running for half an hour.

After doing all the "right things" and seeing no results for two months, perhaps it's time to look deeper into the advice you've been given. The simplistic "calories-in, calories-out" mantra that constitutes today's conventional wisdom does not take into account the complex ways the body actually handles energy allocation/storage from the nutrients you consume. Add to that, many studies have shown that most low level exercise (walking, jogging, etc.) is a dismal failure at helping with weight loss. You need a different approach. Here are a couple of books that can put you on the right track:

    http://www.amazon.com/The-Paleo-Solution-Original-...

    http://www.amazon.com/The-Primal-Blueprint-Reprogr...

That depends on what your concept of "healthy food" is. If you are eating lots of whole grains and low fat, your diet is actually working against your goals and you need to read the above books.

There are many things that are factoring into your weight loss.

One of the main things that you need to do is increase the intensity of your workout. Walking alone does not increase your heart rate enough to make any significant difference to your weight. While it helps your heart, you aren't burning enough calories to actually achieve loss. You're activity isn't intense enough to transfer any of that fat to muscle, which is what is needed for weight loss.

Try walking for 2 minutes to warm up, jogging for 5, walking for 2, jogging for 5, and so on. When you feel ready, you can increase the amount of time you spend jogging.

Remember to read nutrition labels too! Good Luck!

I know the feeling. You seem to reach a plateau that can last for months. My doctor's only recommendation is to walk more or engage in more rigorous exercise. I also invested in a kitchen scale so I know exactly what quantities I'm eating.
