Sorry folks, I've been asking the wrong question?

I asked a few questions this morning about my "slow" computer;

But I was not clear what I meant.

The answers were good and I'm thankful, since they were helpful

in other ways...YET, they kind of missed the point due to me

not forming the question properly.(or so I believe)

My computer is slower than it ever was WHEN I SURF THE INTERNET.

If I'm off the Internet my computer works just fine as far as speed.

But on the Internet, for example, when I visit a website it seems to

take too long to get there. And when I click a link from that website

it takes forever to get me to the new site!

The answers I've gotten so far dealt with de-fragmentation and disk clean up.

That has been helpful, but did not address my problem directly.

Could it be with my Internet browser? Microsoft Explorer?

(I have Vista Home Premium)

Some one suggested I try FireFox(?)

Does that make sense?

Again, it takes a long time when I first activate Explorer on the computer to get to my home page.

(Yahoo). Then when I try to travel to other websites it takes forever!

And many times while visiting a website I'll get a message telling me Explorer

has lost the connection.

Please consider me computer illiterate when answering and try

to make your answer as simple as possible..;-)

THANKS ONE AND ALL!!

People are always cutting down internet explorer. I have about decided

that part of the reason internet explorer don't work good is the computer.

I built myself a supper computer and IE9 runs just as good as Firefox or

Google chrome. Being your internet explorer is not working good you

could install Google Chrome which I consider the best of all web browsers.

If you like you can try this fix for internet explorer. This works most of the

    time.

    Internet explorer repair.

Go to Start <> control panel <> Internet options <> advanced <> click

reset <> Place a check mark in the box that says delete personal settings <> Then click OK

Make sure your computer goes beyond the minimum requirements of the version of Windows you are using. If not, upgrade your computer. There are pages on the internet that can help you on this. Just use the Search box at the top of this page.

On the other hand, make sure your internet connection is exclusively accessed by you. If you are using someone else's internet connection then get your own. If you already have your own, ask a technician from your Internet Service Provider (ISO) to setup the router to allow only your computer to access it.

When dealing with computer "speed", there are two separate areas to think about. Actual computer speed depends on the type and speed of the CPU and the type and speed of the RAM. Computer speed is determined by how fast a computer opens programs or how fast it can render filters and plug-ins. Second is "internet" speed. This is determined by the type and amount of bandwidth that you are receiving. It sounds like you are dealing with the second. To increase you internet speed you simply need more bandwidth. Contact your internet service provider (ISP) and see what is available.

How does you connect your computer? WIFI? Or directly from cable? You can move your computer nearer to your modem if you're using WIFI to get faster speed. If you connect it via cable but very slow, means your modem is very slow and have to buy another package.
