The home team is the "host" and allows their "visitors" to bat first.

By doing so, if the home team is ahead in the score after the visiting bats in the top of the 9th, the game is over. If the score is tied or the home team is losing after the top of the 9th, they come to bat in the bottom of the 9th.

Whoever is the home team (Team that plays at their stadium) Bats Second...

The team that starts at the top of the first inning Batting is the away team... The visiting team which is the team that is visiting another stadium/team...

The home team pitches first and the away team bats first.... that's just always how it's determined..

The road team bats first, the home team fields.

  • The away team always bats first.
