Who is likely to be older: the First Sergeant or the Colonel?

In terms of age, not length of military career.

Wow..some people have no business answering military questions..lol. First a 1SG is an E-8 not an E-7. Second a 1SG is not any rank of SGT. 1SG is an E-8 and it is a rank given to an E-8 who is in charge of a company level, other wise he is the rank of MSG or Master Sergeant. To answer the question correctly it is difficult to say which is older since the progression in rank depends greatly in the MOS or military occupation. Some MOS such as Infantry advance a lot faster than others. Therefore an Infantry 1SG is most likely going to be younger than a Supply 1SG. On average most "full bird" Colonels have been in an average of 20 years.

A colonel will be older than a 1st sgt

Average 1st sgt has from 16 to 20 years of service, most likely enlisted at age 18 or 19, so will be around 36 to 40 years old

Average colonel has 22 to 24 years service, commissioned at age 21, so will be around 43 to 45 years old

NOTE: 1st sgt is NOT a paygrade, 1st sgt is a position of the senior enlisted in a company

    A E-7 or E-8 can be a first sgt

A e-8 is either a master sgt or if in a 1st sgt position, is a 1st Sgt

ummm, a colonel, in the British army at least sergeants tend to be late 30's, colonels a lot older.

Probably first sergeants, considering that is at least probably 20 + years of service. While even though the rank of Colonel does take awhile to achieve, if you were to join right out of college (lets say you are in ur mid twenties) and you possess very good leadership and have shown that your an outstanding sofficer then you can probably become one in maybe a decade at the least.

The colonel officers tend to be older then they enlist as they are college graduates.

Well now all you need to do to get 2nd Lt is finish collage, so it depends on how good leaders the people in question are and crap like that.

Fun Fact: The AK in AK-47, AK-74U, AK-74M, AK-103, and AK-107 stands for Avtomat Kolashnikova.
