Why is this? Is there an accurate reason?

I'm doing a drug project for my medical class and I was just wondering this. Why is marijuana illegal? while salvia is not only another naturally occuring substance, it's worse and it's legal still.

Well first off, saliva is only a weapon if you are HIV positive, but because of the potential threat you can be held until the test results are back.

There has been a prohibition on drugs since around the time the Prohibition Act was struck down. Around this time a lot of upper crust young people were using heroin, cocaine and marijuana to excess.

Keep in mind that the Women's Christian Temperance Union was one of the forces behind prohibition and Christian values had a lot to do with that. They were also vocal in drug prohibition, once again Christian values. Now this is my own interpretation, but I think that the drug prohibition had more to do with daughters lifting their skirts and sons dropping their drawers resulting in SEX that was they real motivation behind targeting drugs.

There are places where it is simply a fine but the DEA in their infinite wisdom still chooses to target users even where it is decriminalized. Don't worry, it will likely be decriminalized or legal under federal statute.
