You definitely should check with your airline. I can only relate my experience flying home from the U.S. to Manila. Most airlines now allow only 50 lbs per baggage (box or maleta) and you are allowed to check in two pieces. It used to be 70 lbs. per piece. I would never go over 50 lbs since the airline may charge you up to $200 for any piece that go over, even if the other one is less than 50 lbs. All the above is for economy ticket holders. If you go business or first class, then you are allowed up to 70 lbs and even perhaps up to 3 pieces of checked-in luggage. It depends on the airline so be sure to check. Even hand-carried items have different wieght limits. It was 40 lbs for Continental but only 10 lbs for PAL when I travelled last January 2009.

If you have someone in the PI you feel the need to send a Balikbayan Box to but do not know what to put in it you are an idiot and your question is plain bloody stupid.

What do I send my Filipino relative/contact?

American chocolates, nail polish, base ball caps fishing lures, American brand clothes, canned food & go to a flea mkt & buy some curtains. I would go to yard sales & buy all these items & her family loved it!
