Should my puppy go to the vet?

My puppy choked on a shard of plastic yesterday and is coughing up blood and struggling to breathe a little. She is coughing up less blood than last night but I still think she should see a vet. My bf thinks she is better off getting rest though. Should I insist on taking her?

Update:

OK she has been taken to the vet, he has put her on oxygen and is giving her a shot to relieve the fluid on her lungs, and is keeping her in for 2 hours, I am really worried about her :(

Update 2:

I'm actually at work and so my boyfriend is handling this, I wanted to take her to the vet straight away but he wouldn't do it. She is being kept in til this evening now and having more injections as somehow it has developed into pneumonia which she has had before.

Btw both her and her mother are taken very good care of for the last 3 months, they have some illnesses from when they were abandoned and left to starve to death by their previous owners, and also from being in the killing station where we adopted them from in Spain where we live, since then they have had £100's spend on vets bills, vitamin tablets and food.

Update 3:

And I never said "I took her to the vet" I said "she has been taken to the vet"- learn to read Moondog, trying to look clever actually makes you look very stupid.

    YES! You should definitely take her to a vet! Coughing up blood is intense.

    Wow, that was fast. You got her to the vet and on oxygen and back here to post additional details within a period of 14 minutes.

    ADD: There was no need for me to try to look clever. I replied to the details in the question written by you where you stated your boyfriend would not take the dog to a vet. Did he have a rapid change of mind because Lo and behold, 14 mintues later it was all under control and the dog was at the vets being treated. Very fast work and an even faster back pedal. Who looks stupid??

    After all, the important thing is not who looks stupid but that the dog is receiving the vet care she needs.

    You should look after ur dog more since its a puppy but u took it 2 the vet which is gd thing she should be fine when she comes back from the vet. Just look out where she goes and and maybe she was hungry. Gd luck as long as you told the vet she choked on the plastic thing nd maybe swallowed a bit of the plastic.

    Stop lying and take her to the vet.

    @Moondog: Nice catch.
