There's plenty of info online about the two versions and the advantage of Sigma Drive on the M2 over the M2a without it. Googling will take you to AudioKarma. That's a decent start point.
Which pre amp is best is a very vague question. It's also incredibly subjective. Matching pres and power amps together depends very much on what you are looking for in sound quality terms. Specialist Hi-Fi forums are the best place to start whittling down the choices. After that you need to trust your ears.
