When guesting at a dojang?

When you are a guest at a different dojang is it still customary to line up by rank or would it be more polite to line up at the back of the class?

When I visit another dojang to work out, I will line up at the back of the class and if the instructor wants me to move up, I'll take his direction.

You always line up by rank. But if you're just a guest I think you should go in the end of the line or back.

If you have a rank in the same organization and are wearing your coloured belt on the mat, line up by rank.

Some arts also routinely acknowledge the ranks from certain other arts. Most BJJ places will acknowledge judo ranks.
