Best software to make movies?

You can spend as little or as much as you want on movie making software. An image editor is a must. Any of these would be good - http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pixelbasedwin/tp/... any of these are good for free.

Audio editing software would be useful. Most of these - http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/25-free-digital-audio... - are good.

I looked at all sorts of free video editors so see my answer at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoBC9... Of those probably Lightworks is the best - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ along with Wax - http://www.debugmode.com/wax/

You may want to bite the bullet and get a complete commercial suite - Adobe's Production Premium or Master Collection has everything you need. http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/buying... Not cheap by any means but very good. CS6 is due to be released sometime in May so you could spend the time looking around at other software before making up your mind.

There are some nice open source/free/shareware movie programs out there check out this site : http://savedelete.com/best-free-windows-video-edit... , I have used a majority of these on this site to just mess around with some videos I had laying around but never really got into to it. They aren't going to be top quality stuff like Sony Vegas Pro or Final Cut Pro that cost hundreds of dollars, so don't expect expert quality video editing software that is free.

When you say best, I guess it really is your opinion so just try out some software from the link provided and I guess pick and chose.

Cyberlink Power Director to cut and place all the footage together.

Vegas Movie Studio For simple Color correction and Effects

and Adobe After Effect for Advance Effects.

The three main ones are

Final Cut Pro (Mac)

Adobe Premiere (Windows/Mac)

Sony Vegas (Windows)
