why in this day and age do we continue to use terms "good hair" or "bad hair" to define black hair?

Update:

Spot on, Miss Rae. i prefer to view black hair as special and delicate as fine silk because of all of the extra love and care it must be shown in order to thrive.

It's just the way it is..as long as you take care of your hair..it's clean and moisturized then it's good hair..alot of people just dont like big curly/coarse hair..as long as it isn't dry and breaking off with a million split ends, you're good. There are alot of ignorant people out there that think that the only "good" hair is straight/wavy silky soft hair when all you have to do is wash n go, let air dry and it's perfect no matter what.lol. It pisses me off when people can do that and I can't, but just because I have to take a while to manipulate my hair..doesn't mean it isn't good hair.

..because we still continue to think in a way that ignorant racist people taught us to think many Years ago. My African people have thick hair to protect their heads from the hot sun they are exposed to in their environment.

Source(s): Having African ancestry from both my parents and choose to learn and study about them.

Did racism find it's way into hairdressing? Oh, what ever can we do?
