is my computer safe from smart fortress 2012?

So, as soon as I got on the internet I went to my usual site on the web when all of a sudden Webroot comes up and says that my computer is infected so it immediatly removed whatever it was and didn't find anymore viruses.

A few minutes later a report comes up and says my computer may be infected with spyware and I should let the system scan for viruses, then suddenly this window comes up calling itself "smart fortress 2012" and starts scanning my computer and when it finished it said I had 38 viruses. At first I was thinking it could have been another virus protecter I had gotten, so I clicked remove and it brought up a window to input you'r credit card information. Right there is when I got suspicious, I ran webroot again but found no viruses right then I immediatly turned off my wifi, as I was doing so I remembered the other virus protector I had was uninstalled a good while back.

I restarted my computer and at the same time got on an alternate computer for internet connection and found out about "smart fortress 2012". As soon as I read it was a virus that installs itself I quickly uninstalled it via control panel, I ran webroot 2 more times to insure if I was infected, and I even searched within the computer folders for any traces at all and found nothing.

I just want to know was everything I did correct and somewhat ensures my computer is rid of this annoying virus.

I would run MalwareBytes from www.download.com

Webroot is not as good as MWB and install Firefox and install the AdBlockPlus add-on for it. It will give you the maximum amount of protection.

Also, if you want a bit of added security. Download Avira Antivirus from www.download.com for a good and free anti-virus software that actively protects you.

First of all, you didn't say if the symptoms of Smart Fortress 2012's presence disappeared (fake messages, blocked programs, etc.). There are very good anti-malware programs on the Internet that will scan your computer for free (I'm suggesting it because you said your security program didn't detect Smart Fortress 2012 when you used it the first time). If you don't want to take risks, I recommend you find a suitable anti-malware tool to run a full scan of your system, to be 100% sure that this harmful infection is gone. I'm also sending you a link http://www.enigmasoftware.com/smartfortress2012-re... where they have a very detailed description of this rogue anti-spyware program and removal instructions.

These 'rogue' family malware items leverage JavaScript; usually in Internet Explorer (but this is a cross platform/cross browser exploit); and constantly move their source, 'footprint', names, or other aspects to avoid detection.

They can be from the domain you visit, or (more commonly) from 3rd party assets; usually poisoned advertising.

By employing the power of JavaScript, it throws up fake security warnings which bewilders unwary Windows users; and installs loads of malware that causes widespread system misbehavior. Do not fall for the 'drive-by download' urgings to click any further links.

Regardless of what method used to clean it, the most valuable lesson to come away with is PREVENTION.

Without that strategy, you will be doing these aggravating and time consuming removals over and over (each time with some freshly named malware).

Start using Firefox, with "NoScript" add on to stop automatic browser fetch & deployment of these items.

Yup, Smart Fortress is a virus.

It always says that you have 38 viruses.

I would recommend using malwarebytes.com because that's how I got it off of my computer 2 weeks ago.

This link gives a detailed removal procedure, but you seem to have got rid of it by other means.
