How are you supposed to meet with a college advisor..?
If you don't live near the school?
I'm planning on going to university about 10 hours from where I live. Of course I'm going to move there a couple weeks before classes start but I started applying and they told me I have to meet with an advisor before I'm able to register for classes. How am I supposed to do that if I'm not going to be near the school until a couple weeks before classes? I can't wait that long because all the classes I need will be taken already.
I had a friend who was in the same situation last year. She had to wait until she moved there to meet with an advisor and of course only got 2 classes because the ones she needed were full. Is there any way to avoid that situation?
I want to avoid taking a trip there because it's costly.. :/ All the money I have I'm going to need to actually live there.

You can wait that long. All the other freshmen are going to wait that long. I'm sure the advisor would not allow you to come in tomorrow even if you did hop a plane. Everyone will be doing it in the week before classes. You will be assigned an appointment like everyone else. If you can choose your own appointment time, make it the earliest slot available.
Yes, this may mean that a couple classes you want will already be filled with sophomores. This happens to most incoming freshmen at most colleges. It just means that you will need to take them another semester or rearrange your schedule to take a different section of that class. So when you're choosing classes, make up several potential schedules for yourself. You can also get on the waitlist for a class, if it's something you can't take next semester or year. A lot of people change their schedules the first week, so enough people may drop to make room, or in some cases, the professor will authorize you to get in past the limit. If you are on the waitlist, you should treat it as if you are enrolled and go to class, i.e. attend (and let the professor know you are on the wait list).

Most colleges require all incoming freshman to come to freshman orientation over the summer and meet with their college adviser then. Part of going out of state is dealing with this kind of stuff. We had to drive five hours for my daughter's freshman orientation, it is just apart of dealing with college.
If you plan on living in a dorm on campus, you will get a move in date. You can not just show up at anytime

Just call and ask - explain your situation and ask if they may be able to do a phone meeting. Unfortunately, when you choose to go that far away to college, travel expenses will play a big part in your college budget.

See if the advisor will Skype or videoconference with you. Or wait until orientation to meet with him or her.
