Fuel Tank Issues on Ford Mustang?

I am looking at getting a Ford Mustang found this article. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2002/01/30/mus...

Does anyone know if the cars are still made this way and if not, when Ford stop it? The one I am looking at is a 2002.

Update:

Maybe I wasn't clear. I am looking to see if Ford still places the gas tank right behind the bumper as stated in the article.

I've seen many rearended late model Mustangs and rarely have their tanks ruptured.. It would have to take a highly neglective driver in another car or a stupid driver of the actual Mustang to severely wreck the Mustang at the rear to cause a rupture so bad that fuel spills everywhere and a fire starts. The problem with the Crown Victoria, Town Car, and Grand Marquis was that the tanks were too close to the rear axle when they were still being equipped with steel tanks. A high impact to the rear of one of those cars would push the tank into the rear axle cover causing the tank to rupture. The chassis flaw was that upon impact from the rear all the passenger/driver doors jambed making it necessary to break out a window to escape if there was a fire resulting from the crash. I can't remember when they switched, but the last several years of the Crown Victoria cars are using plastic tanks now.

No they are not made that way anymore..They are talking about the classic years, 64 to 73.

Most cars still put them "behind" the bumper, but the bumper is much better as well as the tank..Cars have gotten much safer after nearly 50 years.

The automobile is inherently dangerous since it carries 10 to 20 gallons of gas with it, goes really fast and is controlled by a single person. That's why there is so much attention being paid to distracted drivers.. they kill people, not cars

There are some relays in all places for countless issues yet there is in basic terms 2 conceivable places for the gas pump relay on your case. some Mustangs had an empty relay socket under the motive force's seat because of the fact Ford had relocated the gas pump relay to the passenger area strut tower close to the MAF(mass airflow sensor) interior the engine bay. If the connector grow to be empty under the motive force's seat then the relay on the strut tower is the gas pump relay. exchange the pump. they pretty in many situations go undesirable.
