Software is the thing that makes your computer work and all the programs or applications on it, in other words, anything that's not physically there eg. windows (or Mac), Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office etc .
Hardware is any physical item or media that is attached or can be used with a computer eg. Monitor, Keyboard, Processor etc.

Software is the stuff you download and run on the computer. Hardware is the stuff the computer is made of.

software is information designed to tell the hardware of the computer what to do in order to accomplish a certain task.
