What tooth am I growing?
Hello, I'm a 16 year old. I'm currently growing a tooth on the left side of my jaw, it's all the way in the back.
No other tooth is growing, is this the wisdom tooth? When can I have it removed if it is?

Hi there ~
Yes, that would probably be your wisdom tooth. There are generally 4 (1 in each quadrant), but they don't all necessarily come in at the same time.
As for having it removed, there's no medical or dental reason to routinely remove wisdom teeth unless they are causing problems, or if it seems likely they that they will. If your jaw is large enough, and the teeth are able to erupt fully and in a good position, you wouldn't need to have them removed.
On the other hand, if your jaw is too small to accomodate them, then they could fully or partially impacted, causing problems with gums, as well as dental decay.
Next time you see the dentist, have him take a few x-rays to see where your wisdom teeth are in relation to the other teeth and to your jaw. It may be that you will never have any trouble with them at all. Keep your fingers crossed!
