Windows wireless network help?
Hi - i have a older Dell netbook running windows XP. I keep having a problem with the wireless network. For the last 2 or 3 months when I turn on the computer, it never recognizes or connects to the network automatically. I have to go to "View available networks" (it see's nothing), then advanced settings, then click the tab to wireless networks, then select the defined network in the option box, click properties -- don't change anything -- then click OK. When the window closes it will see the network and automatically login and then everything is fine. It's setup to connect automatically when the network is in range - but it never does. And when it does connect, the signal strength says either Very good or Excellent.
How can I avoid doing this process every time I start the computer? It seems like the network adapter isn't starting up with the computer as it should and going through that whole process above gives the adapter a kick in the butt - so to speak. :)
Any ideas?
Oh - this is using the internal wireless network card. Would getting one of those new USB 802.11N adapters help?? I was told my puter only can do 802.11B and I would get faster speeds with N.. (or something like that)

In your wireless network connection properties, there is a Wireless Networks tab. See the preferred networks on that tab. Remove all the networks and close. Reopen the wireless network connection properties and setup the preferred networks again. See if this resolves your issue.
Though wireless n is a faster adapter, you will not be able to use it to its maximum capability is you router is a wireless b router. You will have to buy a wireless n router for that.

advert Hoc: skill all desktops are in a workgroup and could communicate directly to a minimum of one yet another without dealing with a centralised community factor (Server, get right of entry to factor etc). Infrastructure: fairly this will become your get right of entry to factor once you positioned in a router. once you get your router you will could connect in infrastructure mode because it is often the only way routers artwork. To configure your router (by way of fact the previous respond says) you will initially could hook up with it utilising an ethernet cable. as quickly as you have setup the router you are able to do away with the cable and use the prompt in Infrastructure mode. you ought to use Infrastructure mode by way of fact the router will become your critical get right of entry to factor and relays communications between all desktops on your community and to the internet.
