I'm really worried about my friend committing suicide and want some advice?

He's really, really down and I'm worried that he might try and take an overdose. He has lots of codeine in his house, is it possible for him to overdose and kill himself with this stuff?

Update:

For those that think I'm a cold hearted bastard for being sat on Yahoo Answers I'm pleased to say you are wrong. I'm sat downstairs at his house while he's asleep upstairs. I've been here since his wife left him. It's through being here that I've discovered all the codeine! Can't stay here forever though, got my own family to worry about too.

Why is he down? Are there any ways for you to help him? Does he know you really care about him? This is a link to a different Y!A question that might help about the codeine.

Try and get him to talk to Dr or someone he trusts. Has he mentioned suicide? Tell him you care and are concerned about him and want to help as best you can.As a friend you cannot always be the one to give the verbal help that is why an outsider who is reputable is better as they are notinvolved with your friend and can be more objective

all the very best to you and your friend Bliss

Pretty much any drug you can overdose and kill yourself with. If you seriously think he's going to do this, you need to call someone immediately. He may hate you for doing so, but in the end he'll thank you because he'll still have his life. If it can wait until tomorrow (if you're in school still I don't know) speak to a guidance councilor. As soon as possible. If you have his parents' number, call them.

Oh yes, overdose on anything will kill you.

If you really care for him, talk to him to quit that stuffs, ask him to ask people for help if he have to. He just can't continue to live like this.

Talk to someone who cares for him (like parents or uncles or aunts), someone who REALLY cares and has the power to DO something, find a rehab centre.

Let him recover from his addiction and then talk some sense into him.

If he does it again, I don't know... It's your choice to leave him or care for him :)

Don't mean to sound harsh, but get off Yahoo! Answers and go help him if your really worried. Call him, don't text, or better yet, go to his house and talk to him and show him the question you just asked. Don't sit around waiting for strangers to answer you, do something. Go to him. Help him. Now!!

Ditto what Skyar said- what the hell? Go and see him for heavens sake, get any and all drugs out of the house, tell his parents, tell everybody you know to put them all on alert to save his life!
