Getting a mortgage with poor credit score?

Me and my partner are looking at getting a mortgage together but I have a poor credit score. Would it still be possible?

He has a good credit score but can't get a large enough mortgage on hos own as he is only in part tome employment.

Unlikely - you'll certainly need a hefty deposit.

You must pay off any negative items on your credit reports.

Google: Annual Credit Report.co / UK

Remember you will also need a 10% down payment,

with some money left over for expenses.

If you have any credit cards, start paying them in full each month.

Not the minimum, not more than the minimum, but in full.

Carrying balances is an easy way to bring down credit scores.

Suggestion: Get married before buying a home.

Just a good thing to do.

If your credit score is poor, you can't get a mortgage, and they won't consider your income on a joint mortgage application. If only his credit is good enough, then only his income would be considered.

Sounds like you need to get your credit score up, then try again. This will likely take a couple years.

Restore your credit. Then apply for a mortgage. It will take less time to restore your credit than the 30 years you'd be stuck with a mortgage which was underwritten with bad credit (assuming you could get one) You can restore your credit in a year or less depending on your income. Then get a mortgage once your score is better.

Nope...your bad credit will mean you will be declined and if you want to avoid using your credit, you also cannot use your income which, according to your question, eliminates getting a mortgage based on your partner's income alone. Spend the next 18 months to 2 years fixing up your credit, save a decent deposit if you don't already have one and then go looking.

Not everyone will be able to buy a home. You may be one of those people. Part time income and low score pretty much makes you ineligible for a mortgage.

Its very hard at the moment to get a mortgage even with a good rating. Just apply be honest and see what happens

just try applying at a few different places and if they say no, ask them why and what can you do to improve your credit. i assume you have a decent amount saved for the deposit, so you could use this to pay off your debts and improve your credit score which would be a good start.

My first thought would be you had really best ask a broker to try and find you something. Its not going to be easy if you think your credit score is going to go against you. If you got something it may be at a high interest? Good luck, anyway. Hope yhis helped.
