How do you delete songs off of an IPod?

I have a couple songs on my IPod that are strictly on my IPod, and not on my ITunes. This happened because i was downloading the free songs of the week. I don't like a couple of them and I would like to delete them, but when I type in the name and find the exact song it doesn't show I have bought it, and asks if I would like to buy it. I don't know what else to do, any thoughts? Thanks!

The early iPods have to be on iTunes to delete songs.

It all depends on the modle/ software of your iPod. If you have an iPod 4 with iOS 5. Or later then all you have to do is swipe it and hit delete.
