Laptop boots to a black screen with no beeps?
When I turn on my Compaq presario it comes on, lights flash but nothing shows on monitor. I have bought new memory, still the same thing. I have bought a new hard drive. Same thing. Today it finally decided it would boot up to Windows. Worked fine & I hooked up an external monitor and got video from that to. But when I turned it off and back on the black screen returned. So I ordered a monitor off off Ebay. Took the old monitor off and installed a new one. Still a black screen. What could it be?

Possibly a bad graphics driver, or graphics card has a mind of its own and/or dead/dying. More than likely its your graphics display device having issues, or if opened and closed to many times, the wire cable that connects it could have gone bad or broken/has a short
