Is this a good Prologue?

When I was a little girl, the dark was my biggest fear. You never knew what could be lurking around every corner, what’s hiding under your bed, what slithered it’s way into your closet. Before I went to bed my dad would have to get on his knees and look beneath my bed, then he would open the door to my closet and peak behind my clothes to search out any monster, then he would walk to the doorway and turn out the light. I had my nightlight on though, to protect me from what may come if the darkness reaches it’s pure blackness.

One night during our routine, when I was still just seven, my dad told me I was to old to believe in monsters. He didn’t check in my closet, a way of weaning me off of our routine, and my fear itself. That night, I heard light scratching sound from the other side of my closet door. I got out of bed with Sir Fluffs, my teddy bear, at hand to protect me if I found a monster.

My princess nightgown was to big and I tripped over the bottom as I tip-toed to the closet across my pink walled room. I could’ve turned around and buried myself in my Cinderella blankets, but my dad wanted me to be brave.

I turned to knob slowly, my breath caught in my throat as I heard the soft purr of something inside the closet. I let the door slowly open as I took a step back, the groaning of the door wasn’t loud enough to mask the growling of whatever lurked within.

I saw it, I saw the most ugly and scary creature that could possibly exist. I let out a bone trembling shriek before hearing loud footsteps that belonged to my mom and dad. My mom swept me away as she saw the creature standing before us, my father stayed though. He said, “Everything will be alright, angel.” just before my mom ran me out of the room.

I heard him chanting something, but I don’t know what it was. Nothing was alright after that night. My dad died and my mom has been broken inside ever since. We lived in White Wood, a small town in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. After Dad died my mom moved us to Burrlington, New Jersey.

We’re moving back though, my Grandmother is sick and my mom is her only child. Only one week until I abandon everything I know, the one thing I remember from our old home is just a dream. Dad was killed by a burglar, that’s it.

I think its really good. It sounds like a great book. Just one thing you should fix- You said "I saw the most ugly and scary creature.....". It should be ugliest and scariest so it's grammatically correct. Other than that little thing, It was great. Good job!!

    Hope this helped!!!

I loved the premise. Since it's a prologue minimise the details from after the monster-in-the-wardrobe event to Dad died, Mom broken, moving away to Grandma's. Keep up the fear that has haunted you ever since. Then end with 'Now we're moving back. We have no choice'. That way the reader is intrigued as to why you have to face the horror again. Keep the mystery of Dad's death till later.

    Looking forward to seeing more

Prologues are frustrating. in lots of cases they are no longer needed and the fabric may be fed into the tale. between the superb supplies i've got come for the duration of with regards to prologues and the way superb to write down them and in the event that they are needed, is a e book stated as between the strains via Jessica website Morrell. i could propose looking up the e book because it is going to answer your questions.
