i am also a registered nurse.the hospital where i work has told us we must get our bachelors degrees or we will be let go. i am currently putting my son through college, and really cant afford for both of us to go to college at the same time! is there any financial aid for me through the VA or otherwise related to my fathers service. he retired after 22 years in the navy and died several years ago.thanks for your help.
well, i have the associates degree from a community college which is how i got my RN..they want the bachelors from a 4 year institution. i had no idea how expensive it really was-im floored. a "discount" tuition at a local 4 year school is 257$ per semester hour, and i can finish the degree in 30 hours.they say the tuition comes to roughly 9000 for the year.maybe i could wait til my son is finished, but i hate to risk losing my job before then..ty for the links i will def check them out!!
i also stood in line at the local CC today for an hour :( to be told i was too old to qualify for something called "Hazelwood".i think it said Hazelwood.anyway, im going to keep trying..

If you can, i suggest you enroll in a community college to get your bachelors. It's a lot cheaper. There are some programs that are offered to the dependents of Veterans but i'm not sure if you qualify. Here are some of the available financial aid programs:
1. Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents
2. Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
3. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Education Benefits
Check out http://www.finaid.org/military/veterans.phtml, it has a list of all the programs available to veterans and their children.
If you are a single mother, or widowed there are also a lot of programs that can help you out.
