How do I start from scratch on a used PS3?
Just got a used 160 Slim and would like to get the previous owner's settings and account info off and make the system my own. What's the best way to go about that? Just do that 9-hour hard drive reset option?

For each account all you have to do is go all the way to the left on the ps3 menu, and under settings select format memory or format system memory, either one is fine.
That should clear everything COMPLETELY OF, so make sure there's nothing you need/want.

Inside tip;) if you want to customize it to its max, also under settings after you wipe its memory clean there an option called system name. Name it to your liking.
