Is redwood a good quality, strong wood for a guitar?(vs maple?)?

I am choosing a Cort guitar (sfx6r) which is redwood. I have about a 300 dollar budget (yes ik the sfx6r is $660 but I get em 50% off). I am willing to go over my budget about $100 to get the sfx10 (maple) but if redwood is fairly good quality and won't split or chip easily then I will happily buy it and be $100 dollars richer:)

Are you sure it's Redwood and not Rosewood? Either way, I wouldn't worry about the upgrade to maple, especially if damage is your main concern, because neither of those woods should chip apart or break easily. The made difference in guitar tone is not the wood itself but whether the top is laminated like plywood or one whole piece of wood. I'd just try both and see the difference for yourself and decide if it's worth it.
