Can you find out the value of a house without haveing it appraised?

Are there like real estate oriented websites that tell you what similar house sold for and stuff.

You can do a comparison of property sold nearby that is like your property.

You won't get an exact # for your house without an appraisal. The best thing to do is to look at comps (comparisons). These are houses that are in your general neighborhood, similar lot size, square footage, # beds/baths, garages, etc. That will give you an approximation.

Essentially what you can get is a guess.

When I sold my house, the Realtor looked it over carefully and said $219,000.

after 8 months it sold for $170,000.

A few years later the guy next door sold what was the exact same house when built for $250,000.
