How can I build a slot machine?

For my friend's birthday, I'm having a Vegas themed extravaganza, so I'm planning on building a slot machine. I just want it simple, something where if you push a button or pull a lever it rotates, and then I could construct the outside from cardboard. More than anything, I'm wondering how I'd put this little push button system together. Any thoughts?

Building a slot machine is not something you can pick up quickly, it takes time, knowledge, and money. If your serious about building a slot machine even a basic one, you will need to do your own research, loads of research, and you will need to go out and buy special parts for its function as well.

It may be easier to just buy a real slot machine, they can be bought online for anywhere from $50 to $1500, depending on what you want.

I agree that the practicality of the matter dictates that you just buy one, although if this conversation was to grow into something more educative, I'd love to learn. For now I just play online for free and http://www.slotozilla.com/
