How many window a/c BTU’s does it take to cool 480 Sq. Ft.?
of a sandwiched apartment that includes:
a kitchen.
Double paned windows.
26 Ft. outside wall facing west.
12 Ft. outside wall facing east
Standard ceiling height.
I'm figuring about 1 1/2 tons?
Thank you Dan B. The owner wants to buy a 1 ton which I think will work if I'm not cooking anything but I love to cook! So I figured 18,000 BTU's for my cooking ease.

Yep. 1.5 tons for your size apartment is more than adequate. That size can run on a 120vac line.

480 SF:
If you have more than one room then you'll need 7K BTU in each room.
If you have one room that is open on the rest of the place, then you will need 12K BTU (1 ton).
if you live in a humid area make sure that the AC has a hole at the back to drain the condensing water outside, otherwise it will accumulate inside the AC and ruin it.

you would also need to consider the amount of insulation, the outside temperature norms and how cool you want it inside, but Dan B's estimate will provide a starting point from which to add more for your situation.
