Poll: Do you/Have you ever physically hurt yourself to distract yourself from emotional pain or sadness?

    i was a cutter for 6 years but then i got help. i still get urges here and there but i know how to handle it now :)

    nope, i don't really see how that would help. usually if i'm emotionally hurt, i try to cheer myself up not make myself feel worse. everyone lets you down at some point, and at the end of the day you've only got yourself to find a way pull to you through. So if you're getting beaten down by those around you and then you beat yourself up on top of that, you're just adding to the problem and making everything worse instead of finding a solution. don't be so rough on yourself, the world's rough enough it doesn't need your help. you need your help.

    Yes. It works, but only temporarily. Still, physical pain is a lot easier to deal with than emotional pain.

    Well sometimes I'll smack myself in the face in a fit of rage..but that just makes me more upset..

    It's a good thing I rarely get that angry.

    I don't cut but when I do feel embarrass I tend to scratch myself without knowing it, Lucky it's never violent
