California is pretty good too.
I think it's related to the excellent education available in the northeast states. The best way to get ahead in our society is to earn a good degree from a good college or university.

Higher education levels and better K-12 education probably account for this to some degree. Also the fact that the US business centers like NY, Boston, etc., are there. Much of the South is poor and/or rural and industry is oil- or space-related.

The trouble with "University studies" is they tend to so wrong they defy logic. That "pearl" that Fox viewers are less informed than even people who use NO news sources at all! Anyone who would believe THAT one would believe the world is flat!
