Can you guys help me solve this algebraic equation?

My real teacher had to leave because she was having a baby so we got a substitute for the rest of the year. She has confused us by telling contradicting herself a numerous of times by telling us to do trigonometry one way, and then changing her mind. Eventually she assumed that none of us knew how to do algebra and went onto give us some practice work even though we already know how to do it and she is only wasting time.

Anyways the equation is: a - 2 = a/2

Update:

If you could show what you did, that would be extra helpful.

Update 2:

I'm in 7th grade by the way if that matters.

    If you already know how to do it, then why...never mind

    a - 2 = a/2

    2a/2 - 2 = a/2

    2a/2 - a/2 - 2 = a/2 - a/2

    a/2 - 2 = 0

    a/2 = 2

    a = 4

    First get rid of the fractions by multiplying everything by 2

    a - 2 = a/2

    2a - 4 = a

    Now put all the terms with a on the left side and the constants (numbers) on the other side

    2a - 4 = a

    2a - a = 4

    Then finish the problem.

    2a - a = 4

    a = 4

    Then sub 4 into the original equation to double check it.

    a - 2 = a/2

    4 - 2 = 4/2

    2 = 2

    Therefore a = 4 is correct

    Alright, let's do this step by step. Here's how:

    Step 1: The original equation is a - 2 = a/2. We need to get rid of that 2 underneath the a on the right side, so to do that, we multiply everything on the opposite side by 2. This is because multiplying on the right side will cancel out the 2 underneath the a, giving you just 1a. The reason we do it to the left side as well is because in algebra anything that you do to one side you MUST do to the other.

    Step 2: Okay, so we've gotten that out of the way. We now have the equation 2a - 4 = a. We need to get each the variable A by itself and the -4 by itself, as to solve the equation. So, and you can do this whatever way you want, add the -4 to the right side and subtract the a from the left side, giving you this: a = 4. That is your answer, a = 4.

    I hope this helped!

    a - 2 = a/2

    multiply both sides by 2

    2a - 4 = a

    a - 4 = 0

    a = 4

    check

    4 - 2 = 4/2

    2 = 2

    checks
