Neighbourhood Watch question?

We have started neighbour hood watch sometime ago ad recently there has been a lot of Violent activity. Normally we were patrolling in normal clothes now we wear black cargo pants a grey shirt and belt. We were just recently threatened with a knife and we are wondering now if in Canada we can carry non-lethal weapons ie paintball/pepper ball guns for self defense purposes.
