if you want to see your files but dont want to reformat just enter it to safe mode press f8 in bios while loading the windows then you can see a option that says safe mode choose that . after that you can access your files .
if that doesnt work , try to repair your windows. insert your windows disk (installation disk) then press enter , wait for a second and the repair word will appear choose that . this wont format your hard drive , no files will be deleted .
sorry for my english :)

oh no! if you "reformatted" it, then you have erased those files.
If you haven't done so, stop what you are doing, DO NOT REFORMAT.
Here is how you can get those files. You can take out the hard drive, then turn that hard drive into an external hard drive, then connect that to another computer. It will function like how external hard drives does. You can access the files then save it to the other computer.

For Window PC, Press <F8> boot into <Save Mode>, may able to save your desktop.
For Window PC, look for "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard"
Click <Start>, <Programs>, <Accessories>, <System Tools>, <Files and Settings Transfer Wizard>
or
Open <My Document>, Right Click the Folder <Copy>, Open your USB External.., Right Click <Paste>
