Obama on gay marriage......are people going to understand his position?

Are people truly going to understand why Obama has changed his opinion on gay marriage, or is supporting gay marriage really going to hurt him. If you think about it, during the oath of the presidency, he is to uphold the law....the constitution, etc... That requires him to make decisions and pass laws he may not personally or religiously agree with. The law is the law.....so by supporting the right for gays to marry is a legal decision not necessarily a personal one.....he has even said his view on gay marriage has changed since he has been in office mainly to do with the law, not necessarily his personal opinion......will voters understand what the office of president means? Obviously image and political views are important especially when speaking to conservatives, but don't conservatives and religious people also have a duty to uphold and protect the law and the rights of people? so why does religious views play such a big role when church and state are separate? Isn't that what politics/government are supposed to be? upholding the law, and not your personal view? why is it that no one seems to question or realize this these days? why is it no one speaks out about it? does no one care anymore? Comments, views, opinions?

Personally I don't see what the fuss is all about. Being deeply religious and confidentially heterosexual, I think that same sex marriage should be allowed. Why should they get out of paying fees, that other people living together in marriage have to pay? Why should they be able to escape the joy of paying courts and divorce attorneys to walk away from a mistaken choice of life mate.

So the church I attend won't marry them, that is fine, since that is what the Nation sort of stands for. Church's don't decide the laws and the State only gets to interfere when the Church is violating said laws. Like pologmy in the Mormon religion. And with that last example showing that it has already been done in the past it has precedent for being done now and in the future. Deal with it, or leave the country.

The last part was something that many Mormon's did when the law forbidding them from having multiple wives came about. So if you don't like same sex marriage you can always move to a Nation that doesn't support it.

Church and state aren't "separate". The government simply can't define or restrict religion. And by defining marriage as including something that some religions are against, it turns into an act of government restricting religious expression.

But all of that is beside the point. Obama's position on gay marriage is very simple. He is publicly for it right now because he has no chance of getting any conservative votes so he is shooting for extra campaign donations. He figures that the public opinion is close enough to 50/50 that he won't lose independents because of it. Back in 2008 his position was different because the public opinion on gay marriage wasn't as favorable and he needed to avoid losing any independent votes.

I really have to laugh at anyone who can't see through Obama's political games. Every single thing he does or says is part of an overall plan for how he wants the public to perceive him. There's not an ounce of spine in him.

I understand that he is in the position of doing anything to get reelected. How ironic is it that is is suddenly all for gay rights when the election is 6 months away. He is trying to get a new list of hopes and dreams sold to the public while he still can. I'm not falling for him again. I don't think he is for gay rights. He is using them just to get reelected and if he does get in again do you really think he is going to follow up on his promises to them. What about the promises he made in 2008 about fixing the economy and getting rid of the deficit. He sure made those things a lot worse. If it was any other president who did what he has done there would be no change of them getting reelected. The media just love him and over look over anything wrong he does. They make him sound like the Messiah when he really hasn't accomplished anything other than getting osama bin laden.

To make a long story short, he said he supported it but it's up to each state to decide. He is not making it a law like the Republicans want you to believe.

He has already pissed off all the republican conservatives and is losing support from the democrats that supported him in 08, because they are turning to Ron Paul. This is an election year and he's just using this stunt to gain support.
