You'd probably be staying in the country/midland area. I was just given my destination to where I an going to be staying in Japan, and I got Saitama. It's 45 minutes away from Tokyo. Exchange programs try to keep the exchanger away from the ocean, just in case a tsunami occurs.
Pros about Saitama (or any midland city/town):
1. Away from natural disasters
2. Culture shows greatly in the midland
3. Away from the busy cities
4. Schools are normally better
5. You get the best out of Japan's ideal life
6. Food!
7. Friends are made easily
Cons:
1. No shopping
2. Traditional clothing
3. 3 hour transport to a school
4. Away from the night life
5. Less English speakers
6. Families are stricter
7. Harder schooling
Hope this helps!
