The Christian Church didn't officially condemn the use of torture until the bull of Pope Pious VII in 1816?

The one new commandment that Jesus gave us was to love our brother

as our self. Did it take us 1800 years to realize what that might mean?

It seems that the christian church has lost sight of loving our brothers and sisters, and instead got caught up in its attempts to control the masses with fear-based doctrines and the use of force and torture, in order to expand its empire, so to speak. This is the shadow self at work, as we all have the shadow self and the true divine self. Maybe spiritual awakening was not prevalent in the past 1800 years in the world (except for some mystics). In this age of reason and enlightenment, as well as the advent of the Internet, I am hopeful that more and more people are coming to see our true divine identity again and our oneness with all our brothers and sisters around the world.

I'd heard years ago that the RCC didn't close the Spanish Inquisition until 'recently' (60s or 70s) but apparently that is wrong. It was closed in 1834.

Now about supporting torture, did you know that all catholic bishops & priests had to swear an oath of fealty to Adolf Hitler by order of the pope in 1931? (http://jesuswouldbefurious.org/Catholic/1933Concor...

This was after they'd sworn allegiance to the fascist Mucellini years earlier.

Know what's funny? The church has never renounced or removed that agreement so all priests and bishops to this day are sworn to support the Nazi party.

    Ain't religion great?

Or, this could indicate that the church that condoned and practiced torture and putting dissidents to death was never "Christian" to begin with.

No ... because YOU don't know what it means!!

Love your neighbour means: love. your. neighbour. It does not mean: love everyone no matter the circumstance.

I don't have to love serial rapists or murderers.

No, the "church" get corrupted by sin just as surely as anything else man touches.

    Is eternal torture still okay?
