Is it weird that I can figure songs out by ear on guitar?

I'm an 18 year old girl and never really played guitar fully until about 2 months ago. And now, I've figured out about 6 songs by ear on guitar... is that weird? And just by listening to the songs I like over and over...

I've figured out:

The Climb- Miley Cyrus

Enchanted-Taylor Swift

Bad Romance- Lady Gaga

Sparks Fly- Taylor Swift

Do I Drive You Crazy- Megan & Liz (youtube singers/group)

Grenade- Bruno Mars

Is this weird.. that I've never picked up a guitar in my life until 2 months ago.. and now I've figured those songs out... just by learning a few chords.. and now I can play those songs by heart. It's weird to me. But I love guitar now. Is this even normal?

Well, no it's not weird at all, you just have a decent ear. Please do not misunderstand when I say this, but just because you can pick up the melody(the singing part) of these songs does not necessarily mean that you should just stop there, I have a decent ear as well and I used to do the same thing that you are talking about, until I learned how to play the instrument a bit better. What you should really try to do is try to find ut the harmony and the chord progression to a song as well as the melody, this is much harder to do and it is the way an instrument like the guitar or the piano should be played. To tell you the truth, it is quite underwhelming listening to a song on the guitar or the piano especially when the player is only playing a single at any given time. Figure out how to play the chords and the singing part and you will be golden!

Yes this is probably and most likely normal. Its how I learn some stuff on Piano. And now I can play them by heart. I think its pretty good that you can do these songs tho. Well done on it I say. But I wouldn't say its weird, but say its quite a good talent to have!

Yes, after playing guitar for a while, it becomes fairly easy to figure out what chords are being played. What's harder is deciphering single-note riffs and solos.

I think it's great that you can play by ear. I envy you because I can't do that.

And it's not weird that you know these songs. These are pop songs; they use rather repetitive chords so it's not completely difficult to pick up the pattern.

Nope its not weird at all. Its more like a hidden talent/gift. My mom can play a few pieces by Mozart and Battoven on the piano by ear and she has nooo idea how to play the piano. We don't even own one.

Yes it's normal. There are a lot of players who can do this. Some people can't, but most everyone I know can do it.... so, no, it's not weird and you're not special.

who cares if it's normal or not. some people are more inclined than others to music. embrace your talent and keep playing that guitar.
